Olympic Lifting Workshop – The Clean & Jerk

The Dates:

Day 1: Saturday, Feb 23rd – 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Day 2: Sunday, Feb 24th – 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Amanda’s Certifications/Other Continued Education:

  • USAW Level 1 Certification
  • USAW LWC Referee Certification
  •  5 years competitive Olympic Weightlifting experience
  •  State titles in three weight classes
  •  Wisconsin Weightlifting State Record Holder
  • Collegiate swimmer

The Workshop:

This is a comprehensive 2-day introductory workshop to the Olympic lift, the Clean & Jerk. This 2 day ‘Oly’ Workshop has a strong emphasis on the Clean & Jerk and overhead movement patterns.

To set the tone, allow me to start out by asking a few questions …

  • Are you interested in Barbell movements, but shy away from them due to mobility restrictions?
  • Have you avoided using the barbell in your training due to lack of knowledge and coaching in this area?
  • Have you been Olympic lifting for months, maybe even years, and hit a plateau?
  • Have you seen people does these lifts and thought, “that looks cool, I wish I knew how to do that”…

If you answered ‘Yes’  to any of these scenarios, then I highly recommend this 2-day workshop.

The Goal:

  • Gain a basic understanding of Clean & Jerk positions
  • Begin to work towards full execution of the Clean & Jerk
  • Clean up any bad habits we might have picked up
  • Build confidence in the overhead position and getting under the bar
  • Learn proper mobility drills to fine tune your overhead position
  • Learn how to move more freely, perform better, and to minimize any risk of injury

We’ll have 2 coaches on deck, checking and making adjustments along the way to ensure you get the most out of your workouts.

The Schedule:

  • Day 1
  • Introduction/game/ warm up
  • Mobility/accessories integral to forming a solid base for Clean & Jerk
  • Begin to learn positions, terminology, and progressions
  • Work up a sweat
  • Day 2
  • Brief review of Day 1 skills
  • Put it all together!
  • Work up a sweat
  • Work up a sweat

What to Wear:

  • Whatever you’d typically work out in!
  • If you have weightlifting shoes, feel free to bring them. If not, flat bottom athletic shoes will be just fine.
  • Bottled water, or bottle water is available for $1
  • Bring a buddy!
